Corvias ECAC Athletes of the Week for Sept. 26-Oct 2

The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced the Corvias Players of the Week for the week of play ending Oct. 2 and four Empire 8 student-athletes have been recognized.
 
Football – North
Defensive Player of the Week
Dan Loizos – Ithaca College, Jr., LB

 
Loizos anchored Ithaca's defense that held Utica 17 points, 50 total yards and 100 rushing yards below its season averages in a 23-14 victory on Oct. 1. Loizos was all over the field last Saturday, as he made a career-high 20 tackles (eight solo, 12 assisted), forced a fumble, and also recorded 2.5 tackles for loss (14 yards) and 1.5 sacks (13 yards).

Special Teams Player of the Week
Shane Cronin – SUNY Cortland, Sr., K/P

 
Cronin made the game-winning 34-yard field goal with 26 seconds remaining in Cortland's 50-47 win at Hartwick. He also made a 34-yard field goal earlier in the fourth quarter and was 4-for-4 on extra point attempts. In addition, Cronin averaged 42.8 yards per punt on four attempts and 61.4 yards per kickoff on nine kicks.

Rookie of the Week
DeAngelo Walker – SUNY Cortland, Fr., QB

 
Walker completed 19-of-30 passes for 315 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions and ran 11 times for 77 yards (7.0 per carry) in Cortland's 50-47 win at Hartwick. He threw touchdown passes of 63 and 74 yards, the latter to tie the game at 47-47 with 3:12 remaining. His 23-yard run on 3rd-and-5 at the Hartwick 39-yard line set up Cortland's winning field goal in the final minute.
 
Women’s Cross Country – Metro
Runner of the Week
Amy Regan – Stevens Institute of Technology, Sr.

 
Regan finished first for the third-consecutive race, turning in a time of 20:55 in the six-kilometer Greater Louisville Classic. Regan bested the field of 333 runners by nearly 25 seconds.
