Men’s cross country team runs at Geneseo
Meet Results
The Alfred University, Elmira College, Houghton College and Nazareth Cross Country teams competed Saturday at Letchworth State Park, as part of the Mike Woods Invitational.
The Saxons took 18
th of 24 teams competing on the eight-kilometer course. Senior
Kevin Dixon (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) was Alfred's top runner, placing 18
th in 26:27.90. Junior
Erik Diehl (Clarence Center, NY/Clarence) was 114
th in 28:47.20 and sophomore
Jordan Schools (Wyalusing, PA/Wyalusing Valley) was 115
th in 28:47.50.
Senior,
Matt Battaglia came in 55th place and ran a 27:11.3 to lead the Nazareth men in the 8-kilometer race. Freshman,
Nicasio Gristina was just three seconds behind at 24:14.2 for 57th place.
Edward Ely (109th place) ran a 28:38.4, followed by
Jack Wessel (125th) who ran a 29:18.5.
Thomas Lannon finished in 126th place for Nazareth, with a time of 29.19.9 and wrapped up the scoring for the men.
Houghton's Tyler Deuschle finished 131st (28:01) to lead the Highlanders. Daniel Burdo finished 153rd (28:30.4) and Matthew Gostomski was 187th (28:54.4).
Elmira's James Fritsche finished with a time of 30:43.6, the second race in a row that the Bolton, Connecticut, native posted the best time for the Purple and Gold. The third-year Soaring Eagle will only be getting better as the season goes on, this was only Fritsche's second race back from injury, and he was able to shave more than 30 seconds off of his time from last week's eight-kilometer race.
Yoshi Yokoi '19 set his personal record time in Saturday's race. The Okazaki, Japan, native finished with a time of 34:01.6, shaving exactly 18 seconds off of his previous PR set at last season's Cross Country Only Conference (COCC) Championships.
