AU cross country coach Chichester turns in record-setting run at Wineglass Half Marathon
CORNING, NY –
Tim Chichester, head men's and women's cross country coach at Alfred University, won the 6
th Annual Wineglass Half Marathon Sunday Oct. 2, setting a new course record in the process.
Chichester completed the 13.1-mile race from Campbell to downtown Corning in 1:07:24.85. His winning time shattered the race record of 1:09:30.00 set by David Bronfenbrenner in 2012. More than 3,500 runners competed in the Wineglass Half Marathon. Chichester, 28, ran in the Age 25-29 Men's Division, placing first in his division and overall.
Chichester was appointed head cross country coach at Alfred University prior to the start of the 2016-17 academic year. He also serves as distance running coach for the AU men's and women's track and field teams.
A qualifier for the 2016 Olympic Trials in the marathon, Chichester has a successful background in competitive running, placing placed 11
th in the Boston Marathon in 2012 and 15
th in the New York City Marathon in 2015. Twice he competed and placed in the top 15 in the Marathon LALA, Torreon, Mexico, taking eighth in 2014 and 13
th in 2015.
He earned a bachelor's degree in biology from SUNY Geneseo in 2010 and a master's degree in biology from Brockport in 2015. While at Geneseo, he was a four-year member of the cross country and track teams, serving as captain of the cross country team three years. Five times he participated in the NCAA Division III cross country and track and field championship meets and was an NCAA Atlantic Region All-Star in cross country in 2008 and 2009. In 2009, he was inducted into the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Hall of Fame for cross country.
