Hartwick Runners Compete at Saratoga Invitational

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – Hartwick cross country competed at the Saratoga Cross Country Invitational on Saturday in Saratoga Springs, NY. Both 'Wick teams placed 12th against strong opposition.
           
The women were paced once again by freshman Sarah Matys (Holden, MA/Wachusett Regional). She ran the 5k race in 20:29.3 to place 77th out of 157 runners.
           
Abby Cerne (Cadyville, NY/Saranac) would be next for the Hawks. She covered in the course in 21:19.2. Freshman Tylisha Gourdine (Watertown, NY/Watertown) secured a time of 21:45.9 for 'Wick.
           
Host RPI won the women's event. Plattsburgh finished second followed by New Paltz in third.
           
Senior Chris Shaw (Averill Park, NY/Averill Park) placed 89 out of 172 competitors for the Hartwick men. Shaw ran the men's 8K with a final time of 28:44.9.
           
Tim Mahony (Syosset, NY/St. Dominic) was less than 21 seconds behind Shaw. His time was 29:05.3. Ethan Pine (Poughkeepsie, NY/Franklin D. Roosevelt) ran the race in 29:47.9.
           
The men's competition was won by RPI. SUNY Delhi took second place. Hamilton College finished third.
           
Hartwick's cross country teams are back in action next Saturday, October 8. The Hawks will run at the Hamilton Invitational in Clinton, NY.
