Maynard And Markarian Given Weekly Honors From NFHCA

Ashley Maynard and
Emily Markarian have been given weekly honors by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association for their outstanding performances during the week of Oct. 31-Nov. 6.
Maynard was awarded Division III Defensive Player of the Week after recording a pair of double-digit save efforts to lift the Cardinals to 2-1 victories in both the semifinals and championship of the Empire 8 Championship over the weekend. She made 12 saves, including eight in the second half, as St. John Fisher won 2-1 in overtime against Stevens in a semifinal contest on Friday and followed it up with 11 saves in another 2-1 victory in the championship versus Washington & Jefferson. Maynard also helped the Cardinals fend off 11 penalty corners in the contest.
Markarian was given an honorable mention after receiving several honors from the Empire 8 this past week. She was named Empire 8 Field Hockey Player of the Year and Empire 8 Conference Championship Most Valuable Player after scoring three of Fisher's four goals in the Cardinals run to the championship title.
