ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men's soccer team advanced to the second round of the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) tournament with a 3-0 victory over the No. 4 seeded SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers on Saturday evening at Yunevich Stadium.

The Saxons (9-7-2) got on the board after just 26 minutes of play. Senior midfielder Graeme Corrigan (Troy, NY/Troy) picked up a loose ball played by senior forward Oumar Soumahoro (New York, NY/Martin Luther King) about 20-25 yards out and played a high ball, just under the crossbar for the first goal of the evening and the eventual game-winner.

Soumahoro would find net next for the Saxons in the first half when senior midfielder Andy Ricci (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) played a long ball from 30 yards out. Soumahoro received it before threading it to the right of the net for the 2-0 Alfred University lead in the 35th minute.

Senior midfielder Richard Lander (Narrowsburg, NY/Sullivan West) rounded out the scoring efforts on the evening with a 30-yard free kick with just over 20 minutes remaining in the game.

Time in goal for the Saxons was split by junior Chris Gutierrez (Holbrook, NY/Sachem East) and sophomore Brian Larkin-Gero (Chagrin Falls, OH/Kenston). Gutierrez played just over 80 minutes with two saves while Larkin-Gero made one stop in his near 10 minutes of play. The Fighting Tigers' Tanner Puff made six saves and gave up all three Saxon goals.

The Saxons held distinct advantage in shots, 19-7 (9-3 on goal) and corner kicks, 10-2.

Alfred University will next play Penn State-Harrisburg in the final game at Yunevich Stadium on Sunday, November 13 at 2:00 pm. PSH defeated Penn State-Altoona 4-1.
