Solid Showings for Men’s Cross Country at Atlantic Regionals
COMPLETE RESULTS
GLASSBORO, N.J. – Empire 8 men's cross country runners competed at the NCAA Atlantic Regionals hosted by Rowan University in Glassboro, N.J.
All runners who finished within the top 35 of the race earned all-region honors. In all, 303 entries competed on the 8K course.
The NCAA will release its team and individual qualifiers to the championship meet tomorrow at 1 p.m. The national championship is scheduled for Saturday, November 19 at 11 a.m. in Louisville, Ky.
ITHACA
The Ithaca College men's cross country team totaled 258 points to come in ninth overall out of 44 teams.
Senior
Sean Phillips was Ithaca's top runner with a 12th place finish in a time of 24:49.7. Junior
Tim Chappelltook 32nd at the regional meet in 25:11.6.
Senior
Jesse Capellaro clocked a time of 25:14.6 to come in 34th, while fellow senior
Chris Gutierrez came in 67th with a time of 25:58.7.
Freshman
Forest Stewart crossed the line in a time of 26:32.2 to finish 114th to round out the top five.
Freshmen
Jeff Montgomery and
Christopher Tinti were 124th and 140th in times of 26:36.7 and 26:51.6.
UTICA
The Utica College men's cross country team posted a program-best 15
thplace finish at the NCAA Atlantic Regional (8K) hosted by Rowan University on Saturday. The Pioneers totaled 405 points as a team and placed five finishers in the top 106 in the field of 303 racers.
Senior
Erik Winberg (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) set a new school-record in the 8k as he crossed the finish line with a time of 25:32.9. His average mile time was 5:09 as he placed 46
th out of 303. Sophomore
Tyler Wright (Little Falls, NY/West Canada Valley) placed 50
thoverall with a time of 25:38.9 as he posted the
second fastest 8k time in program-history, just six seconds behind Winberg.
Freshman
Mitchell Marlow (Malone, NY/Franklin Academy) came up just 11 seconds shy of his personal best in the 8k as he recorded a time of 26:20.6 and placed 99
th overall.
SJFC
The St. John Fisher College men's cross country team enjoyed its best finish at NCAAs in the program's history, as the Cardinals finished 17
th overall.
Senior
Mac Milligan was Fisher's top finisher, running a great race and placing 22
nd overall with a time of 25:01.6. He will find out on Sunday afternoon if he has qualified for next week's national championship.

Charles Collins was 52
nd overall at 25:42.7, while
James Felice finished in 26:06.8, good for 81
st overall.

Bernard Daoust was 143
rd overall at 26:55.4, while teammate
Dan Cleary was right behind him at 26:59.9, good for 146

STEVENS
Stevens Institute of Technology men's cross country senior
Chris Banko ran a race of 25:29.0 Saturday to lead the Ducks at the NCAA Atlantic Regional.
Bako's time placed the veteran in 42nd overall as he started the race in the top-25 at the 2k mark. The veteran maintained his top-35 slot at 5k, before closing out the top-50 performance.
Stevens finished 22nd as a team while Geneseo took the team title. RPI, TCNJ, NYU and Oneonta rounded out the top five.
Freshman
Jake Catalano placed second on the Ducks with a time of 26:33.1, while freshman
Michael Gormley took third with a race of 26:48.0. Junior
Nathan Schaeferfinished fourth in a time of 27:06.9
ALFRED
Kevin Dixon (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen), a senior on the Alfred University men's cross country team, competed Saturday at the NCAA Atlantic Regional Championship meet, hosted by Rowan University.
Competing on an 8-kilometer course, Dixon finished 91st in 26:13.10.
HOUGHTON
After a four-year transition period from the NAIA to Division III of the NCAA, the Houghton College Highlanders are finally eligible for post-conference NCAA competition. The first Houghton teams to take advantage of this opportunity were the Men's and Women's Cross-Country teams, who concluded their season today at the NCAA Division III Atlantic Regional Championships, which were hosted by Rowan University. The men finished 31/51.

NAZARETH
Senior
Matt Battaglia was Nazareth top performer in 180th place with an 8-kilometer time of 27:30.9. Other competitors were sophomore
Jack Wessel in 185th place (27:44.5); freshman
Nicasio Gristina in 192th place (27:50.4); and seniors Tom Lannon and
Jacob Murray in 235th and 249th places respectively.
HARTWICK
Seniors
Chris Shaw (Averill Park, NY/Averill Park) and
Tim Mahony (Syosset, NY/St. Dominic) were the top finishers for the Hawks' men's team in their final collegiate races. Shaw ran the 8K in 27:56.8 with Mahony finishing in 28:55.5.
Ethan Pine (Poughkeepsie, NY/Franklin D. Roosevelt) covered the course in 28:58.7 for the Hawks.
Joseph Ziegler III (Chicago, IL/Lindblom Math & Science Acad.) was next in 30:05.3.
Patrick Marrone (Elma, NY/Iroquois) (30:26.7),
James Trofa (Lake Grove, NY/Sachem North)(31:04.4), and
Matt Randall (Waldorf, MD/Thomas Stone) (31:59.1) also participated for the Hawks.
