HOBOKEN, N.J. (November 12, 2016) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team exploded for six goals in the first half Saturday night in an 8-0 win over Colby-Sawyer in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
The win moved Stevens to 19-1-0, and advanced it to tomorrow's second round against the winner of Middlebury and MIT.
Stevens saw scoring from seven different players in freshman
Gabriella Saade, junior
Sammy Mount, senior
Raba Nassif, sophomore
Misha Brewster, senior
Carly Bean, senior
Rachel Chavkin, and senior
Gabby Mathelier. Sophomore Madi Chollet made five saves in the second half.
As a team the Ducks outshot Colby-Sawyer 26-7, including a 15-5 margin in shots on goal.
Stevens jumped all over Colby Sawyer with two goals in the match's opening 10 minutes. Saade tallied the first off a feed from Mathelier, before Mount made it 2-0 less than a minute later off a feed from Nassif.
Nassif got into the scoring 10 minutes later with an unassisted score that just got between the outstretched keeper and the post, followed by two scores from Brewster in the 36th and 37th minutes to make it 5-0. Bean capped the half three minutes later with a goal from sophomore
Zisi Komar's feed, giving Stevens the commanding 6-0 lead at the half.
Chavkin made it 7-0 early in the second, before Mathelier added one to the scoring column eight minutes later. The cushion was more than enough for the Ducks from there as Stevens cruised the rest of the way to the win
Stevens' match tomorrow is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start at the De Baun Athletic Complex.
