Horner Hits 2,000 As Stevens Advances To Regional Final
HOBOKEN, N.J. (November 12, 2016) – Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball junior
Sydni Horner recorded her 2,000th career dig Saturday as the Ducks moved past Clark in three sets in round two of the NCAA Tournament.
The win moved Stevens to 33-5, and advanced it to tomorrow's regional final against Eastern.
Horner finished with a team-high 22 digs in addition to 14 from senior
Mary Tobin. Freshman
Sara Hain enjoyed a big night offensively with 14 kills, while Tobin and freshman
Casey King tallied 11 and 10 respectively.
Clark jumped out to an 8-5 lead early in the first set, but Stevens responded with a 10-2 run highlighted by three kills from freshman
Sara Hain to go up 22-15. King brought the Ducks closer with a kill to make it 23-15, before another from Hain and an error from Clark gave Stevens the win.
The second played back-and-forth again initially when a Clark attack error put Stevens up 14-12. Senior
Christina Sciarra broke a 14-14 tie shortly after with a kill, followed by a kill from freshman
Shelby Stewart to make it 21-20. The lead would be Stevens' for the rest of the set as two kills from Stewart delivered the win.
Clark fought back in the third, taking a 15-12 lead midway through behind a pair of kills before making it 17-14. Stevens responded with two straight however to pull within one, before tying things at 19 on a kill from Tobin.
The Ducks held off Clark's set point at 25-24, before doing the same at 28-27. It would be the last deficit of the night though as an attack error followed by two kills from Tobin sealed the match for the Ducks.
Stevens' match tomorrow is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start at Canavan Arena.
