Get to Know: Dale Rothenberger

Dale Rothenberger is the Head men’s and women’s swimming and diving coach and Aquatic Director at Hartwick College.
Where did you attend college? I attended Slippery Rock University for two years and then transferred for Westchester University. I majored in Physical Education/Health Recreation & Aquatics. I played water polo and was a competitive swimmer.
What made you chose to attend institutions? So I could pursue the academic major that interested me the most as well as the athletics I enjoyed the most.
How long have you been at Hartwick? I have been at Hartwick 32 years.
What brought you to Hartwick? The opportunity to coach at the collegiate level.
What is the best thing about the Hartwick Campus? The people!
What is the first word that comes to mind when you hear ‘Hartwick’? Tradition. Stability. Success.
Who has been the most influential person during your career? My parents and my high school swimming and diving coach.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I am competitive so pursuing the sport of triathlon.
Top three things on your bucket list?
Ride my bike cross-country or travel cross-country with my wife.
Drive a NASCAR car.
Travel with my family.
What is something most people don’t know about you? I am a grease monkey and really enjoy working with cars. I also really enjoy music and was in a band in high school and college and played the drums.
