Stevens Institute of Technology senior women's cross country runner Amy Regan was named National Women's Athlete of the Year Tuesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

The honor is the second of Regan's career, and comes on the heels of being named athlete of the year for the Atlantic region last week.

Regan captured the second NCAA cross country national championship of her career this past Saturday, crossing the finish line in 20:16.4 to place her nearly 15 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. Regan previously won the championship the last season she competed in the event in 2014.

For the season, Regan went a perfect 7-0 this fall to give her two straight years of undefeated races. The veteran also made history earlier in the season when she became the first runner in Empire 8 Conference history to win four conference titles.

With last weekend's title, Regan has now won an astonishing six national championships for her career, four of which came during the 2015-16 season combined at indoor and outdoor track. In 2016 alone, Regan has five national first-place finishes to her name.

Regan's individual success helped fuel the Ducks as a team this cross country season as well, as Stevens earned its first ever at-large bid to the NCAA National Championship behind a fifth-place finish at regionals. Regan won that race as Stevens finished the season ranked in the top-25 nationally.

With Regan's cross country career now over, the future Hall of Famer will now set her signs toward title defense in the upcoming outdoor track & field season.
