Fourth-seeded St. John Fisher College advanced to the finals of the Empire 8 Conference Men's Soccer Championship, as the Cardinals edged top-seeded Stevens Institute of Institute of Technology 6-5 in penalty kicks.

This is the first time since 2007 and just the third time since 2002 that Fisher will be playing in the Empire 8 title game.  The Cardinals can clinch their first-ever NCAA Division III Championship berth if they can win at 7 p.m. tomorrow against No. 2 Ithaca College or No. 3 Houghton College.

After playing 110 scoreless minutes (the game is officially recorded as a 0-0 tie), the Cardinals came through in the clutch.

Justin Ferron scored on Fisher's first PK attempt to give the Cardinals a 1-0 edge and goalie Joe Catalfamo made a diving save to his left to keep the score tied at 2-2 through three rounds.    In the top of the seventh round, Glenn Roschetzky drilled a shot just under the crossbar to give the Cardinals a 6-5 advantage.   On Stevens' ensuing attempt, the shot glanced off the lefyt-post with Catalfamo denying the richochet.

Catalfamo finished the game with four saves to earn the shutout.
