2016 Field Hockey All-Tournament Team and MVP

Following the Empire 8 Field Hockey Tournament and the naming of the Most Valuable Player, the entire 2016 All-tournament team has been announced.
 
St. John Fisher – Emily Markarian (MVP), Sarah Bisesi, Nickole Morgan and Ashley Maynard
Washington & Jefferson – Rachel Buyan, Alana Boyd and Amanda Steffey
Hartwick –Sarah Ryan and Maria Stalder
Stevens – Nolie Prouty and Emily Stukenborg
 
Markarian was named the tournament’s most outstanding player as she tallied three goals in the two games including both game-winners as Fisher won its first E8 Championship. The wins also gave the Cardinals its first berth to the NCAA Tournament.
 
Bisesi and Morgan started their 19 and 20 games of the season at defense and midfield, respectively, as the Cardinals extended their win streak to 17 straight games. Bisesi, Morgan and the Fisher defense allowed one goal in each game as Fisher faced some tough offensive pressure. In the semifinal Stevens managed 20 shots, 13 on goal and 12 corner but the Cardinals were able to deny. The championship game saw the President’s fire off 17 shots, including 13 on goal and take 11 penalty corners. 
 
Maynard made a combined 23 saves throughout the tournament to pick up two more wins bringing her season total to 17. She stopped a season-high 12 shots in the overtime semifinal against Stevens, including eight in the second half. She then made 11 saves against W&J in the final for her fourth double-digit save total of the season.
 
Buyan scored three goals in the tournament including two in the semifinal win over Hartwick. She scored four minutes into the second half for a 1-0 lead and extended the W&J lead to 3-0 in the 56th minute with her team leading 14th goal of the season. In the championship game, Buyan got the President’s on the board in with under three minutes to play on a successful penalty stroke goal.
 
Steffey assisted on W&J’s second goal of the semifinal game and then rounded out the scoring in the 61st minute with her 13th goal of the season. In the final, Steffey fired off six shots including five on goal.
 
Boyd anchored a President defensive unit that held Hartwick scoreless in the semifinal and limited the Hawks to only four shots on the game. In the championship game, Boyd helped hold top-seeded Fisher to nine shots and only five penalty corners. 
 
Prouty started her 19 straight game for the Ducks and she aided the offense that fired off 20 shots included 13 on goal. Prouty was credited with two shots.
 
Stukenborg played in her second overtime game of the season and recorded 13 saves, marking her second highest total of the season.
 
Ryan and Stalder helped Hartwick on both ends of the field. The Hawks held second-seeded W&J scoreless for the first 39 minutes of the semifinal. On offense Ryan and Stalder contributed to setting up Hartwick’s four shots and earning nine penalty corners.
