In its first ever trip to the NCAA Division III Championship, the St. John Fisher College men's soccer team draws the Red Dragons of SUNY Oneonta (14-6-1) in the first round. The game will be held on Saturday in Oneonta at 11 a.m.
Fisher gained entrance to the NCAAs after securing the program's first-ever Empire 8 title on Saturday. The fourth-seeded Cardinals came back from a 2-0 deficit to beat No. 3 Houghton College 3-2 in the tournament finale.
Matthew Kaiser scored two goals for Fisher, including the game winner, on his way to being named the tournament's Most Valuable player.
SUNY Oneonta, which fell 1-0 to SUNY Cortland in the SUNYAC Championship final on Saturday, had the second-best overall record in its conference. Last season, the Red Dragons made it all the way to the national championship semifinals before being edged in penalty kicks by Amherst College, who went on to win the national title.
The winner of this contest will go on to face the winner of the University of Rochester and Eastern University game on Sunday..
