The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) and Longstreth named St. John Fisher College junior Emily Markarian a Second Team All-American for her performance over the 2016 season, marking her as the first All-American in Fisher program history.

Markarian had a historic year in a Cardinal uniform, spearheading an offense that helped Fisher claim its best record ever as well as its first Conference title and trip to the NCAA Championship.

The Orchard Park native recorded 50 points on the season, topping all players in the Empire 8 and tying her for 15th in all of Division III. Of those 50 points, 21 were goals which was also the most in the conference and ranked 14th in the nation. Markarian, who started in every game for the Cardinals, performed well throughout the entire season, earning at least one point in 16 of the 22 games played.

Markarian eclipsed multiple records in fisher's record books as well, setting the benchmark for career goals with 56 and moving up to second all-time in assists with 17. On October 4th, in the program's first ever win over the University of Rochester, Markarian once again set a new precedent, becoming the first-ever player to hit the 100-point mark in a career. She currently sits atop that list with 129 points, 31 ahead of the next closest Cardinal.

Aside from being named an All-American, Markarian has seen plenty of other recognition this season. She has been named First Team All-North Atlantic Region, Empire 8 Player of the Year, Empire 8 Tournament Most valuable Player and has received a slew of weekly accolades.
