Get to Know: Monique McLean

Monique McLean is in her second season as the head women’s basketball coach at Alfred University.
Where did you attend college? I attended St. John’s University, majored in Psychology and I was a four year basketball player.
What made you chose to attend institutions? I have always loved New York and am very fascinated by the city. And the took a lot of time to get to know me and my family. And I really wanted the chance to play at Madison Square Garden.
What brought you to Alfred? I liked the challenge of taking over a program that has struggled and Athletic Director, Paul Vecchio, and I really hit it off.
What is the best thing about the Alfred Campus? The support for athletics!
What is the first word that comes to mind when you hear ‘Alfred’? Unique. The location and atmosphere are unique as well as few unique majors.
Who has been the most influential person during your career? My dad. He has always pushed me from day one and has helped me be confident without sugar coating things.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I have started to pick up golf. And when the weather is nice I like to get out there and hit some golf balls.
