The calendar has turned to February, which means spring sports will join in the action soon. But those in winter sports continue to perform at a high level. Those earning weekly awards for the week of January 25-31, 2016 include...

Men’s Swimming & Diving Athlete – Nazareth
Dan Burke, Senior – Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker
 
Dan Burke won three events in a losing effort at RIT on Saturday. He touched first in both backstroke events. The senior won the 100-yard back in 52.62 and the 200-yard back in 1:54.56. He also took the 200-yard IM in 2:00.82.
 
Women’s Swimming & Diving Athlete – Stevens
Sarah Jurczyk, Sophomore – Williamsburg, VA/Lafayette
 
Sarah Jurczyk had three first place finishes in a 170-91 dual-meet win over Hartwick College Saturday. She finished first in the 200-fly (2:09.91-pool record), 100-fly (59.21) and the 400-freestyle relay (3:44.5).
 
Men's Basketball Player - Hartwick
Justin Pratt, Junior, Forward – North Kingston, RI/North Kingston

 
Junior Justin Pratt knocked down a program-record 11 three-pointers for a career-high 33 points against Utica last Wednesday. Pratt also moved into sixth all-time at 'Wick in three-pointers with 149. In an OT win at Houghton Saturday, Pratt scored 16 and came through again as he nailed a three at the top of the key to tie the game with 8.5 seconds showing on the clock to send the contest to overtime. On the week he averaged 21 points and shot 16-of-28 from the floor (57.1%).
 
Men's Basketball Rookie - Nazareth
Tyler Stenglein, Sophomore, Guard – Rochester, NY/Irondequoit

 
Tyler Stenglein averaged 24 points, five rebounds, and sixs assists in a 2-0 week for the Golden Flyers. He was 16-for-23 from the field (.696) and 13-of-15 from the free-throw line (.867). Stenglein led Nazareth with 25 points, five boards, five assists, and three steals in a 100-73 win over Houghton. He then notched 23 points, five boards and seven assists in a 98-78 triumph over Ithaca.
 
Women's Basketball Player - Houghton
Maisie Pipher, Senior, Center – Lowman, NY/Win Tiers Christian

 
Maisie Pipher became the 12th player in Houghton program history to reach the 1,000 career point milestone as she averaged 12 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5.5 blocks on the week. She shot 11-of-18 (61%) from the floor. Pipher finished with 13 points, six boards and six blocks against Nazareth Wednesday and then added 11 points, seven rebounds and five blocks against Hartwick Saturday.
 
Women’s Basketball Rookie –  Alfred
Chanice Battle, Freshman, Guard – Brooklyn, NY/Midwood
 
Chanice Battle averaged 12.5 points as she shot 10-of-18 (55%) from the floor and 5-of-7 (60%) from 3-point land.  She put up 18 points against Utica on Saturday to go along with four assists and two steals. Earlier in the week she finished with seven points and two steals against St. John Fisher.
 
Men’s Indoor Track Athlete –  St. John Fisher
Peter Girardi, Sophomore – Cicero, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse
 
Peter Girardi set two school records this weekend in the Brockport Golden Eagle Invite, in the 60m hurdles (8.25s) and the 500m dash (1:07.70). He took first place in both events, and his 60m hurdle time is the seventh best time in Division III this year.
 
Men’s Indoor Field Athlete –  Ithaca
De’Marquis Malone, Senior – Ithaca, NY/Ithaca
 
Senior De'Marquis Malone took top honors in the long jump in a leap of 6.82 meters (22' 4.5") at Brockport's Golden Eagle Invitational on Saturday. Malone also came in third in the triple jump with a mark of 13.88 meters (45' 6.50").
 
Women’s Indoor Track Athlete –  Ithaca
Taryn Cordani, Sophomore – Douglas, MA/Douglas
 
Sophomore Taryn Cordani broke the school record in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:54.31 at Boston University's John Thomas Terrier Classic on Friday evening. The previous best time of 9:55.10 was set back on March 8, 1992 by Ann Marie DelSignore – a national champion that year in the 5K. Cordani finished 25th overall in the event and is currently the third fastest time in Division III.
 
Women’s Indoor Field Athlete –  Utica
Sarah Wiatr, Senior – Poland, NY/West Canada Valley
 
Sarah Wiatr placed first and broke the meet and facility records in the triple jump with a jump of 11.84 meters. Wiatr's jump ranks her second in the nation in the triple jump.
