COSIDA RELEASE

The 2015-16 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Men's Basketball Teams were released and four of the seven honorees in District Three were from the Empire 8.

Hartwick's Trevor Norton, Ithaca's Joey Flanagan, Nazareth's Mitch Ford and St. John Fisher's Keegan Ryan have been recognized after excelling on the hardwood and in the classroom.

In order to be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average while serving as a starter or impact contributor off the bench, and had to participate in at least half of the teams games.

First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.

Norton holds a 3.41 cumulative grade-point average and is majoring in Business Administration. He is one of the top offensive players in the Empire 8 Conference this season, ranking second in both scoring average (20.1 ppg) and three-point field goals made (65). Norton is also fourth in three-point field goal percentage (.419), fifth in free-throw percentage (.827), ninth in field-goal percentage (.472).

An accounting major, Flanagan boasts a 3.98 grade-point average, which was the highest of any honoree in District III, which covers all of New York State.  The sophomore guard has also played a pivotal role for the Bombers this season appearing in 20 games including 14 starts.  Flanagan ranks second on the team and ninth overall in the Empire 8 conference scoring 17.3 points per game to go along with 3.1 rebounds and nearly two steals per contest.  The Poughkeepsie native has been efficient all season as well, shooting .557 from the floor, .514 from behind the 3-point arc and .851 from the charity stripe.

Ford holds a 3.36 gpa as a Business Administration major. The senior has registered 15 double-doubles in 21 games, which ranks 4th in the country.  The Victor, NY native leads the Empire 8 in both scoring (23.3 points per game) and rebounding (11.7 rebounds per game) – those statistics put him 17th and 7th respectively in the country.  Ford, who is shooting 53.5 percent from the field, has scored in double figures in every game this season.  Equally as impressive, Ford has poured in at least 20 points in 17 games this season.

Ryan owns a 3.51 GPA, while majoring in management.  The junior ranks among the Empire 8 Conference leaders in scoring (17.4 ppg), rebounding (10.0 rpg) and field goal percentage (58.5%).   He ranks sixth at Fisher in career rebounding with 677 boards and 14th in career scoring with 1,099 points.
