Fisher Ranked Nationally In Preseason Poll
The St. John Fisher College baseball program is ranked No. 23 in the 2016 NCAA Division III Preseason Poll, recently released by Perfect Game.
Last year, Fisher posted a 25-18 overall record, while playing one of the nation's toughest schedules. The Cardinals, who just missed receiving an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Championship, proved to be good enough to beat the best. Fisher defeated SUNY Cortland 12-8 in the last regular season game for both teams last year, with the Red Dragons going on to win the NCAA Division III World Series.
Fisher returns nearly its entire pitching staff from last spring, which ranked in the top 20 nationally with a 3.03 earned run average.
Offensively, Fisher will look to senior
Cody Wiktorski and sophomore
Scott Eisenmenger. Eisenmenger, last year's Empire 8 Rookie of the Year, started in 37 games for the
Cardinals and led the conference in home runs (8), hits (55) and slugging percentage (.616). He also registered 32 RBI, 12 doubles, and a team-high 93 total bases in 2015.
Wiktorski was named to the All-Region team for the second straight year. The Penfield native, who saw most action during the season as the designated hitter, led the Empire 8 with six triples on the year. His .515 slugging percentage and 84 total bases were second on the team, only to Eisenmenger.
Fisher will open the 2016 season at 6 p.m. on Friday, February 26
th against Minnesota's Concordia College. It will be the first of 10 games at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.
