Saxon men’s tennis team drops pair at Elmira Spring Invitational

ELMIRA, NY – The Alfred University men's tennis team opened its spring season Saturday with a pair of matches at the Elmira College Spring Kickoff Invitational.
 
The Saxons dropped both matches, falling 6-3 to Farmingdale State and 8-1 to Purchase College. Combined with two setbacks in the fall 2015 season, the Saxons' record now stands at 0-4.
 
Senior Connor Doud (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) earned a first singles sin (6-1, 6-0) against Farmingdale, and teamed with classmate Matt Baloga (Goshen, NY/Goshen) to take first doubles, 8-2. Alfred's other point came in third doubles, where freshman Kyle Kemper (Oswego, NY/Oswego) and junior Kyle Merrifield (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home) won third doubles, 8-3.
 
Doud claimed Alfred's lone victory against Purchase, taking his first singles match 6-1, 6-2.
 
AU wraps up play at the invitational on Sunday at 9 a.m. against host Elmira.
