Elmira Suffers First Loss of Spring Season to Division II Daemen
Score: Daemen College 9, Elmira College 0
Records: Daemen (2-2), Elmira (0-2)
Location: Miller Tennis Center – Williamsville, NY
Williamsville, NY -- In their spring season-opening match, the Elmira College men's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision on the road to NCAA Division II opponent Daemen College. With the loss, Elmira falls to 0-2 on the 2015-16 campaign.
The Wildcats did not waste any time flexing their muscle early in the match, as Daemen swept the doubles matches, dropping just four games in the process.
Singles action was a much closer affair, but the end result was much of the same, as EC dropped all six matches. Elmira saw
Austin Mansell '16 and
Patrick Tracey '18 play a pair of tight matches at the third and fourth spots, respectively. Mansell dropped his first set in a tiebreaker, a good one at that. He fell in the breaker 8-6, before being edged in the second set by a single break, 6-3.
Tracey had the best showing of Elmira's singles players, as the second-year talent forced his opponent to a third set. After dropping the first set in a tiebreaker, Tracey bounced back with a 7-5 win in the second to force a super tiebreak for the match. Unfortunately, his opponent John LeMar would prevail in the 10-point breaker by a 10-7 score line.
