Ithaca Holds off Rochester in Home Opener

ITHACA, N.Y. —The Ithaca College men's tennis team kicked off the 2016 portion of the schedule with a 5-4 non-conference win against the University of Rochester Sunday afternoon inside the tennis courts at Glazer Arena.
The Bombers (1-0), playing in their first dual match of the season, won two doubles matches and three singles matches against the Yellowjackets (1-1) to win their home opener.

Michael Gardiner.
Ithaca won the first three singles flights and the top two doubles matches.
Playing at first singles, Gardiner earned a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Masuru Fujimaki, Hayes earned a 6-1, 7-6 (7-2) triumph at second singles over Ian Baranowski, and Davis secured a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Sam Leeman at third singles.

Lorenzo Viguie-Ramos teamed up for an 8-4 win over Baranowski and Aaron Mevorach, while Hayes and Gardiner outlasted Fujimaki and Leeman 8-6 at second doubles as Ithaca took a 2-1 lead into the singles portion of competition.
Rochester pulled even at two with a win at fourth singles before Ithaca clinched the match thanks to singles victories from Hayes, Davis, and Gardiner.
Ithaca travels to St. Lawrence University for another non-conference clash at 10 a.m. Feb. 27.
