Stevens and Fisher Remain in East Region Rankings
The Stevens Institute of Technology and St. John Fisher College women's basketball teams are ranked for the third straight week in the east region. The Ducks moved up one spot to No. 3, while the Cardinals improved one position to No. 5.
The Ducks, who are 19-6, sit behind the University of Rochester (19-5) and New York University (17-7), while SUNY Geneseo sits at No. 4 just above Fisher (22-2).
Stevens will host the Empire 8 Championship tournament this weekend with four teams battling for a chance to win the postseason conference championship and earn the automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship.
Stevens and Fisher finished for a tie at the top of the standings with a 15-1 conference record forcing tiebreaker critieria to decide the top seed and host. The two teams split head to head in the regular season and defeated every other conference team twice. The third criteria is road record verse conference opponents which they both finished with an idential record of 7-1, resulting in a comparison of NCAA strength of schedule index within region ultimately giving the Ducks the advtange and the top seed.
Stevens has made the E8 tournament each year since joining the conference in in 2007-08. The Ducks have advanced to the title game three times (2008, 2009, 2011), hoisting the trophy twice (2009, 2011).
Fisher is making its 12th tournament appearance (missed 2007) and will serve as the #2 seed for the third time. The Cardinals have advanced to the championship game four times (2004, 2005, 2006, 2015), winning the title in 2006 and 2015.
