ITHACA, N.Y. –
Junior Katherine Pitman of the Ithaca College women's track & field team set three records and established the nation's top mark in the pole vault during the opening day of the NYSCTC Championships in Glazer Arena on Friday afternoon.

Pitman cleared 4.07 meters in the event to set Ithaca's school and facility record, plus the NYSCTC standard. Her performance also puts her atop the pole vault qualifying list by .01 meters.

"My season goal was four meters and I hit that last weekend so that was huge for me," said Pitman.

"That was really big and that's what I've been working towards this whole season. Now I have to re-adjust and see what my next goal is and where I want to go from there. 4.07 was a really cool place to go. I knew the number two woman in the country was at 4.05 and the number two was at 4.06. If I think about my heights the jumps will come. I try not to think about where the bar is; I try to think of the technicalities of my efforts."

Pitman won the pole vault by .47 meters. Senior Alex Rechen was the runner-up at 3:60 meters, while junior Amanda Zaput took third at 3.20 meters.

Junior Brandy Smith also set a new school and facility record in the weight throw with a distance of 18.32 meters to best the field by nearly two meters.
