Ithaca Men’s Track & Field Places Second at NYSCTC

ITHACA, N.Y. –
The Ithaca College men's track & field team took second at the NYSCTC Championships on Saturday in Glazer Arena with 130 points. Ithaca was only nine points behind Rochester for the state title.

Senior Andrew Brandt set a few facility record in the high jump with a cleared height of 2.10 meters and finished first overall.

Senior Aaron Matthias took second in the 60-meter dash at 7.07 seconds, while freshman Elliot Place placed seventh in 7.23 seconds.

Matthias recorded another second place showing in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.39 seconds, while senior De'Marquis Malone was also a runner-up with a mark of 13.81 meters in the triple jump.

Sophomore Gerardo Munoz crossed third overall in the 500-meter dash in 1:06.49. Junior Chris Gutierrez completed the 1,000-meter run in 2:36.92 which was good for fifth in the event.

The 4x800-meter relay of juniors Sean Phillips, Chris Gutierrez and Brendan Davis and senior Larkin Bohanan claimed third in 8:01.04. The 4x400 relay of Munoz, seniors Jordan Smith and John Fausold, and freshman Derek Howes took third in 3:25.63.

Senior Sawyer Hitchcock finished fourth in the 3,000-meter run in 8:47.62.

Junior Andrew Ward claimed fifth in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.75 seconds, while fellow junior Sean Phillips finished the mile in a time of 4:23.58 to take sixth overall.

Junior Larry Cass measured out 14.42 meters in the shot put, which placed him fifth. Ward was sixth in the high jump at 1.78 meters, and sophomore Kevin Pomer also cleared 1.78 meters to take seventh.

Sophomore Seth Abbott finished fifth in the heptathlon with 4439 points. Abbott was second in the 1,000-meter run in a time of 2:46.81, third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.19 seconds and tied for fifth in the pole vault at 4.10 meters.

Freshman Lee Matthews also wrapped up the heptathlon in seven with 3938. Matthews' best performance came in the pole vault with a third place finish of 4.20 meters.
