Double Sweep Powers Stevens To Sunday Win
EDGEWATER, N.J. (February 28, 2016) - The No. 25 Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team ran its win-streak to three Sunday with a 7-2 win over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at the Binghamton Racquet Club.
The win moved Stevens to 4-2, while regionally-ranked No. 12 RPI fell to 0-4.
Seniors
Matthew Heinrich and
Ben Foran got the Ducks started at first doubles with an 8-6 win over No. 12 McKinley Grimes and Sherman Uyeno, followed by junior
Charles Drake and freshman
Kyle Cenderelli's 8-6 win at No. 3. Sophomores
Kyle Henry and
Danny Polk finished-up the doubles sweep soon after with a 9-7 victory at No. 2.
The win was the fourth of the season for No. 18 Heinrich/Foran, while Drake/Cenderelli and Henry/Drake each moved their doubles records to 2-1.
Drake extended the lead to 4-0 with a straight-set, 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2 before Henry rebounded from a first-set loss with a 4-6, 7-6, 10-7 victory at No. 5 to clinch the match after a Stevens loss at No. 2. RPI responded with a win at No. 1, but Foran and junior
Michael Feldman followed with wins at third and sixth to seal the 7-2 win.
Foran's win kept him undefeated at singles this spring at 4-0, while Drake pushed his record to 4-1. Henry moved to 2-1, and Feldman evened his record at 2-2.
The Ducks will be back in action on March 12 with a match against No. 28 Brandeis University.
