Four Corvias ECAC Athletes of the Week

Four Empire 8 student-athletes have been honored as the Corvias Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Athletes of the Week in the Upstate region for their performances during the week of Jan. 25-31, 2016.

Men’s Basketball – Upstate
Rookie of the Week
Tyler Stenglein – Nazareth College, So., Guard, Rochester, N.Y. 
 
Stenglein averaged 24 points, five rebounds and six assists in a 2-0 week for the Golden Flyers, shooting 16-for-23 from the field (.696) and 13-of-15 from the free-throw line on the week (.867). Stenglein led Nazareth with 25 points, five boards, five assists and three steals in a 100-73 win over Houghton. He then notched 23 points, five boards and seven assists in a 98-78 triumph over Ithaca.
 
Women’s Basketball – Upstate
Rookie of the Week
Chanice Battle – Alfred University, Fr., Guard, Brooklyn, N.Y.
 
Battle averaged 12.5 points as she shot 10-of-18 (55%) from the floor and 5-of-7 (60%) from 3-point land.  She put up 18 points against Utica on Saturday to go along with four assists and two steals. Earlier in the week she finished with seven points and two steals against St. John Fisher. 
 
Men’s Swimming & Diving - Upstate
Swimmer of the Week
Dan Burke – Nazareth College, Sr., Baldwinsville, N.Y.
 
Burke won three events in a losing effort at RIT on Saturday. He touched first in both backstroke events, winning the 100-yard back in 52.62 and the 200-yard back in 1:54.56. He also took the 200-yard IM in 2:00.82.
 
Women’s Indoor Track & Field – Upstate
Athlete of the Week
Taryn Cordani – Ithaca College, So., Douglas, Mass.
 
Cordani broke the school record in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:54.31 at Boston University's John Thomas Terrier Classic on Friday evening. The previous best time of 9:55.10 was set back on March 8, 1992 by Ann Marie DelSignore – a national champion that year in the 5K. Cordani finished 25th overall in the event and currently owns the third-fastest time in Division III.
