Stevens Bows Out Of NCAA Tournament
AMHERST, Mass. (March 11, 2016) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team fell to No. 4 Amherst College 82-48 in the NCAA Third Round Friday.
The Ducks ended its season at 23-7, while Amherst improved to 29-1 and will take on the University of Rochester tomorrow.
The teams traded the first six points of the contest, but Amherst went on a 14-5 spurt to jump out ahead. A jumper by senior
Kaitlyn Astel with 25 seconds left in the first quarter but the gap to single digits, but Jaimie Renner hit a layup for the hosts to establish the double digit edge after one.
After a scoreless 2:26 to open the second frame, sophomore
Megan Brown hit a layup to cut the lead to eight points at 24-16, but a 20-4 run by the Lord Jeffs broke the game open. Renner would hit a layup at the buzzer to put the hosts up 24.
Amherst was hot in the first half, and seemed to not miss in the second half, shooting 57.69% in the final 20. The Ducks improved their shooting at halftime, shooting 43.48% in the second.
Astel led the Ducks with 13 points, while Brown recorded a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds. Senior
Miranda Ripken ended her career with four points and four boards in her final collegiate contest.
Ali Doswell led all scorers with 19 points, while Haley Zwecker chipped in 16 off the bench.
