No. 25 Stevens Wins Fourth Straight
WASHINGTON, N.J. (March 12, 2016) - The No. 25 Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team won its third match of the season over a nationally ranked opponent Saturday with a 5-4 victory over No. 27 Brandeis University.
The win moved Stevens to 5-2, while Brandies fell to 1-3. The win was the fourth in-a-row for the Ducks overall.
Seniors
Matthew Heinrich and
Ben Foran gave the Ducks the early advantage with an 8-3 win at first doubles, followed soon-after by sophomores
Kyle Henry and
Danny Polk's 8-3 win at No. 2.
The win kept Heinrich/Foran undefeated this spring at 5-0, while Henry/Polk moved its record to 3-1.
Brandies responded with a win at No. 3, before evening the score with a straight-set win at fifth singles. Heinrich grabbed the lead back for the Ducks with a 7-6, 6-2 win at No. 1, before Foran made it 4-2 with a straight-set win at No. 4.
Brandeis inched closed with a win at No. 6, but junior
Charles Drake clinched the match after recovering from a second-set loss with a 6-4, 0-6, 7-6 win at No. 2 to seal the victory.
Foran stayed unbeaten with his singles win at 5-0, while Heinrich and Drake moved to 3-1 and 5-1 respectively.
The Ducks will be back in action with four matches in California against nationally-ranked teams starting on March 21 against No. 4 University of Chicago.
