Six Corvias ECAC Athletes of the Week
Six Empire 8 student-athletes have been honored as the Corvias Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Athletes of the Week in the Upstate region for their performances during the week of Feb. 22-28, 2016.
Men’s Basketball - Upstate
Player of the Week
Jake Sinicki – Hartwick College, So., Forward, Endicott, N.Y.
Sinicki was named the tournament MVP as he averaged 20 points, nine rebounds and 3.5 blocks. He shot 60.9 percent from the field and a perfect 8-of-8 from the foul line. In the semifinal game Sinicki scored 14 points, had a team-high 14 rebounds and had a game-high five blocks. In the championship game, he had 21 first half points for the Hawks, connecting on 8-of-9 shots. He finished with a team-high 26 points as he shot 9-of-14 in the game with four rebounds, a trio of three-pointers, two assists, and two blocks.

Rookie of the Week
Tyler Stenglein – Nazareth College, So., Guard, Rochester, N.Y
Stenglein, who is in his first year of intercollegiate competition, poured in 17 points (8-of-16) and grabbed six rebounds in Nazareth's 75-69 loss to Hartwick College in the Empire 8 semifinals on Friday.
Women’s Basketball - Upstate
Co-Player of the Week
Megan Brown – Stevens Institute of Technology, So., Forward, Laurel, Md.
Brown was named the E8 Conference Tournament Most Valuable Player, averaging 15 points and 9 rebounds over the two games. Brown scored a career-best 19 points and hauled in seven rebounds against Nazareth. She followed that up with an 11-point, 11-rebound performance in the Championship game against Ithaca, marking her eighth double-double of the season.
Men’s Indoor Track & Field – Upstate
Athlete of the Week
Andrew Brandt – Ithaca College, Sr., Broomall, Pa.
Brandt set a new facility and school record in the high jump with a cleared height of 2.10 meters and finished first overall at the NYSCTC Indoor Championships at Ithaca. The senior’s new mark broke a school record that had stood since 1986.
Women’s Indoor Track & Field – Upstate
Co-Athlete of the Week
Amy Reagan – Stevens Institute of Technology, Sr., Green Brook, N.J.
Regan was fourth in the mile at the Fastrack Last Chance meet Saturday, recording a time of 4:51.32. The time is currently the fastest in Division III this season, and set the school record. The previous best time for the current season was 4:59.97.
Women’s Indoor Track & Field – Upstate
Co-Athlete of the Week
Katherine Pitman – Ithaca College, Jr., Swampscott, Mass.
Pitman took first in the pole vault at the NYSCTC Championships and set a new school, meet and facility record in the process. Pitman ranks second in the nation with a mark of 4.07 meters. She helped Ithaca win its 15th state title with 216.5 points.
