Houghton Claims First Win of Season, 7-2, over Pitt-Brad

OLEAN, N.Y. -- Houghton men's tennis got wins in seven of nine matches against Pitt-Bradford to move to 1-3 on the season Tuesday.

Singles victories went to Chase Rangel (Houghton, NY, Fillmore), Ethan Baker (Ballston Lake, NY , Ballston Spa HS), Daniel Hammers (Wayland, NY, Wayland-Cohocton), Matthew Greer (Spencerport, NY, Churchville-Chili) and Holden Cole (Richburg, NY, Bolivar-Richburg). Greer and Baker teamed up for a 8-1 win in second doubles, while Cole and Bjorn Webb (Houghton, NY, Fillmore Central) claimed a 8-2 win in third doubles.

"The players did a magnificant job in their second match of the spring season keeping their games under control against a very good and tenacious UPB team," said Head Coach Charlie Ellis. "Head Coach Susan Schenfield is to be commended, as the players there are fired up about their tennis and play well. It was a great test and quality of play overall was high."

Houghton is back in action on Tuesday, March 8 when they host Oswego at 4 p.m.
