Ithaca Wraps Up Spring Break Trip with Loss
HILTON HEAD, S.C. — The Ithaca College men's tennis team wrapped up its annual Spring Break trip with a 6-3 loss to Baker University (Kan.) Wednesday afternoon in Hilton Head, S.C.
The Bombers (3-2) split the six singles matches, but the Wildcats won all three doubles matches to earn the win.
Senior
Chris Hayes and junior
Wes Davis won their singles matches to improve to a perfect 5-0 in singles play, while sophomore
Lorenzo Viguie-Ramos improved to 4-1 in singles play to lead the Bombers.
Davis dropped the first set of his third singles match to Thomas Irick, 6-3, before rallying to win in three sets with a 6-4, 10-7 triumph.
At second singles, Hayes handled Taylor Ficke in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, while Viguie-Ramos also earned a straight-sets win at sixth singles, 6-2, 6-3 over Dylan Geick.
Junior
Brandon Buksbaum suffered a tough, three-set setback at fifth singles, falling 6-1, 1-6, 10-4 vs. Aaron Greenbaum. Classmate
Nate Wolf lost to Gavin Webster 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 at the fourth flight, while freshman
Michael Gardiner fell to Spartak Rahachou 6-3, 6-0 at the first flight.
In doubles action, Davis and Viguie-Ramos suffered an 8-5 loss to Rahachou and Blake Barnard at first doubles, the same score that Hayes and Gardiner lost by against Webster and Austin Keberlein.
Rounding out the doubles play, Wolf and freshman
Stefan Lazarevic fell to Irick and Conner Petty 8-3.
The Bombers return to action with a non-conference clash at Hobart College at 4 p.m. March 24.
