Ithaca Remains Undefeated in Duals in 2015-16
HILTON HEAD, S.C. — The Ithaca College men's tennis team stayed undefeated on the 2015-16 season thanks to an 8-1 win over Shepherd University (Kent.) Monday afternoon in Hilton Head, S.C.
The Bombers (3-0) swept the three doubles matches and won five of six singles clashes against the Rams (3-4) as Ithaca kicked off its annual Spring Break trip with its third straight dual win.
The following Ithaca student-athletes won both their singles and doubles matches against Shepherd:
Senior
Chris Hayes, juniors
Wes Davis and
Nate Wolf, and sophomore
Lorenzo Viguie-Ramos.
In the singles matches, the Bombers earned four straight-sets victories and added a come-from-behind victory from Davis.
In the third flight, Davis trailed Shane Dempsey 6-1 and was down 4-1 in the second set before he rallied to even the match, winning the final five games to win the set, 6-4. He then won his third straight singles match of the year with a 10-4 win in the tiebreaker.
Hayes also improved to 3-0 in singles matches thanks to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Will Wheatley at second singles.
Wolf handled Lewis Charette 6-0, 6-1 at fourth singles, while junior
Brandon Buksbaum defeated Austin Thomas 6-2, 6-2 at fifth singles as Wolf and Buksbaum earned their first wins of the year.
Viguie-Ramos also earned a 6-1, 6-2 win over Clay Smith at sixth singles.
In doubles action, Davis and Viguie-Ramos knocked off Thomas and Grant Davis by an 8-3 score in the first flight. Hayes and freshman
Michael Gardiner blanked Charette and Wheatley 8-0 at second doubles, while Wolf and freshman
Stefan Lazarevic handed Dempsey and Smith an 8-2 setback at third doubles.
The Bombers continue their Spring Break trip when they square off against Georgetown (Kent.) College at 9 a.m. Tuesday morning
