Stevens Falls In Spring Break Opener
CLAREMONT, Calif. (March 21, 2016) – The No. 25 Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team had its four-match winning streak snapped Monday in a 5-4 loss to No. 4 University of Chicago.
The loss dropped Stevens' record to 5-3, while Chicago moved to 11-1.
Chicago broke open an early lead with an 8-3 win at second doubles, before making it 2-0 with an 8-6 win at No. 3. Seniors
Matthew Heinrich and
Ben Foran provided the Stevens answer however, topping No. 3 Nicolas Chua and David Liu 8-6 to salvage a point a first doubles.
The win was Heinrich/Foran's team-leading sixth of the season, keeping the No. 18 ranked doubles team in the country unbeaten this spring at 6-0.
Heinrich evened things up with a 6-1, 6-0 win at first singles over No. 6 Chua, but Chicago responded by taking the next three wins at No. 6, 4 and 2 to clinch the win.
Sophomore
Danny Polk broke his early season losing streak at No. 3, coming back from a 6-2 first set loss to take the next two 6-1 and 6-4. Sophomore
Kyle Henry followed suit at No. 5, winning the final two sets 6-4 and 7-5 after dropping the first one 6-4.
The Ducks will continue their spring break trip tomorrow with a 1 p.m. (EST) matchup with No. 22 Tufts University.
