Ithaca Falls on the Road to Hobart
GENEVA, N.Y. —Senior
Chris Hayes remained undefeated in singles play this year in dual matches, but the Ithaca College men's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to Hobart Thursday afternoon in Geneva, N.Y.
The Bombers (3-3) split the six singles matches but lost all three doubles matches to the Statesmen (2-4).
Hayes, junior
Brandon Buksbaum, and sophomore
Lorenzo Viguie-Ramos each won their singles matches vs. Hobart.
Hayes swept Jonathan Atwater 7-5, 6-3 at second singles to run his record to 6-0 in dual matches. Buksbaum earned a 6-4, 3-6, 10-8 win over Patrick Gray at fifth singles, and Viguie-Ramos swept Patrick Dunk 6-3, 6-1 at the sixth flight for Ithaca.
Freshman
Michael Gardiner and junior
Wes Davis each dropped three-set decisions in singles play. At the first flight, Gardiner won the first set vs. Jonah Salita, 6-2, but lost the next two 6-2 and 6-1. Davis also won the first set vs. Michael Rusk, 6-2, but dropped the next two 7-5, 10-6.
Junior
Nate Wolf fell to Harry Nichols 6-3, 6-4 at fourth singles to round out the singles matches.
In doubles action, Davis and Viguie-Ramos lost to Rusk and Danny Kot 8-3 in the first flight. Hayes and Gardiner fell to Atwater and Salita 9-7 in the second flight, while Wolf and freshman
Stefan Lazarevic fell to Nichols and Patrick Gray 8-4 at third doubles.
The Bombers travel to St. John Fisher College for the Empire 8 Conference opener at 1 p.m. April 3.
