Hawks Topped by Franklin College in Hilton Head
HILTON HEAD, SC – The Hartwick Hawks (0-2, 0-1) played their second match of the season today against the Grizzlies of Franklin College (1-6) dropping the match 8-1. The match was played in Hilton Head on the Hawks' training trip in South Carolina.
At first doubles, senior
Liam Brown (Suffield, CT/Suffield) and junior
John Talbot (Middlesex, NY/Marcus-Whitman) pushed the duo of Kyle Sauley and Melissa Sanders to 8-5. Another close match was played at third doubles in which freshman
Rose Natoli (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) and sophomore
Sami Chaudry (Lahore, Pakistan/Aitchison College) lost and 8-6 contest.
The lone win on the day came at first singles with another convincing win for Talbot. He won without dropping a game to stay undefeated in singles play on the year.
Brown was pushed to a third set but dropped his match to Sanders 4-6, 7-5, 10-6. Sophomore
Heidi Rice (Canandaigua, NY/Marcus-Whitman) played a tough match against Franklin's Dean Elrod losing, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3.
Chaudhry played in his first collegiate match today in singles and doubles winning a combined 14 games in two matches. He lost his singles match to Dan Hicks at the sixth singles position 7-5, 6-3.
The Hawks will have a rematch with the Grizzlies
on Thursday at noon.
