Doud sets career wins mark as men’s tennis team defeats Lycoming

ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men's tennis team defeated visiting Lycoming College 7-2 in a non-conference matchup Tuesday afternoon.
 
AU senior Connor Doud (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) set a new school record for combined victories, winning first singles (6-1, 6-0) and teaming with classmate Matt Baloga (Goshen, NY/Goshen) to take first doubles, 8-0.
 
The two wins give Doud 80 for his career, which breaks the mark of 79 by Stefan Nonnenmann (2010-14). Doud now has a school-record 45 career singles wins to go with 35 doubles victories. He is four doubles wins away from tying Nonnenmann's school career mark.
 
AU (3-9), took five of six singles matches and two of three doubles matches. In addition to Doud's victory in first singles, the Saxons got singles wins from sophomore Mike Wisniewski (Buffalo, NY/Williamsville East), 6-3, 6-2 in second singles; Baloga, 6-3, 4-6, 10-4 in third singles; senior Kevin Volz (Olean, NY/Olean), 6-1, 6-4 in fourth singles; and junior Patrick Brown (Olean, NY/Olean), 6-3, 6-3 in fifth singles.
 
Alfred's other win in doubles was earned by Volz and Brown, who teamed to take second doubles, 9-7.
 
The Saxons play next on Saturday, April 2, when they resume Empire 8 Conference play with a 9 a.m. match at Stevens.
