Thayer and Thompson on National Watch List for Division III Softball National Player of the Year

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--St. John Fisher College sophomore  and Alfred University junior Liz Thompson have been identified as two of 50 players from the nearly 250 teams nationwide on the inaugural National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA)/Schutt Sports Division III National Player of the Year watch list.

Thayer earned the 2015 Empire 8 Pitcher of the Year and Rookie of the Year after tallying 294 strikeouts over 202.0 innings pitched en route to recording a 1.00 earned run average. She broke the previous school record of 290 strikeouts and in fewer innings pitched (222.0). She ranks third and fourth in Fisher's single-season top-10 lists for innings pitched and wins (20), respectively.

Fisher began its 2016 campaign down in Clermont, FL for its spring break trip on Feb. 29th and are currentlly 6-0. 

Thompson was an NFCA Division III Second Team All-American in 2015, when she helped lead AU to the program's first-ever berth in the NCAA Division III championships in Salem, VA.  She batted .463 with 12 homeruns and 44 RBI last year, set new single-season records for hits (68) and runs (56), and was named Empire 8 Player of the Year.

Alfred opens its season with a 12-game Spring Break trip to Clermont, FL, March 7-12.
