Stevens Advances To NCAA Second Round

HOBOKEN, N.J. (March 4, 2016) – Junior Erica Guketlov scored a season-high 22 points to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team to a 76-50 win over SUNY-Old Westbury Friday.

The Ducks will take on SUNY Geneseo tomorrow at 6 p.m with a berth to the . The Knights defeated FDU-Florham in the other first round matchup.

Sophomore Megan Brown continued to stay hot early on, scoring six of the first seven points herself. OW's Raven Pentz nailed a three to cut the deficit to four, but would close out the first quarter on a 6-0 run, thanks to back-to-back treys from Guketlov and senior Kaitlyn Astel. Pentz scored 12 of the teams 15 points for the Panthers in the frame.

A layup by Jasmine Robinson put OW down only six midway through the second, but Astel and senior Miranda Ripken would connect on jumpers to put Stevens back up double digits. The Ducks started off hot but cooled off, shooting 39.4% from the field, and only 3-of-15 from behind the arc. OW had only nine made field goals through a half.

The teams would trade points for a good portion of the third stanza, but at the 2:53 mark, Guketlov took over. The junior guard scored the teams next 14 points on 5-of-5 shooting, including 4-of-4 from deep. OW only had two points during the stretch, and the lead ballooned to 22 points. The Ducks poured it on the in the final period, going up by as much as 32, before the Panthers scored the final three tallies to end the game.

Guketlov shot 8-of-14 from the field, and 6-of-11 from three, while Astel chipped in 16 and seven rebounds. Senior Dylan Krause filled the stat sheet with eight points, six rebounds and assists.

Pentz led OW with 21 points and seven rebounds, while Monique Joseph had nine points and eight rebounds.
