ECAC Indoor Championships Comes To an End

STATEN ISLAND, NY – The Empire 8 men's track and field teams finished the final day of the ECAC Indoor Championships on Saturday. 

ALFRED
Alfred University sophomore Seth Spicer finished seventh in the men's heptathlon. On Saturday, Spicer competed in the pole vault (no height), 60-meter hurdles (9.16 seconds) and 1,000-meter run (2:50.10) to finish the heptathlon with 3,954 points. On Friday, Spicer had a personal best of 12.47 meters in the shot put, tops among the 14-athlete field. He also competed in the 60-meter dash (7.51 seconds); the long jump (6.01 meters); and the high jump (1.70 meters).

Junior Jeffrey Nunez was the only other AU athlete competing Saturday. He finished 20th in the weight throw with a heave of 14.50 meters.
 
ITHACA
Sophomore Seth Abbott produced Ithaca's top finish with a second place showing in the heptathlon with 4429 points. Abbott took second in the pole vault at 3.90 meters, second in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:46.26, tied for fourth in the high jump with a mark of 1.79 meters and was sixth in the 60-meter hurdles at 9.38 seconds.

Senior Andrew Brandt placed third in the high jump at 2.03 meters, while sophomoreGerardo Munoz was fourth in the 500-meter dash in a time of 1:05.82.

The 4x800-meter relay team of senior Larkin Bohanan, juniors Sean PhillipsBrendan Davis and Chris Gutierrez placed fifth in 7:55.84.

Senior Aaron Matthias claimed sixth in the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.23 seconds, while Bohanan rounded out the top performance with an eighth place finish in the 1,000 at 2:34.67.

NAZARETH
Sophomore Tyler Hancock was seventh in the weight throw at the ECACs with a personal-best throw of 16.31 meters (53 feet, 6 1/4 inches) and seniorBrandon Vuolo was ninth in the shot put with a personal-best toss of 15.26 meters (50 feet, 0 3/4 inches)

ST. JOHN FISHER
James Felice set a new Fisher record and placed seventh overall in the indoor mile, posting a time of 4:18.99.

Sophomore Peter Girardi finished seventh overall in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles.

UTICA
Nicodemus Gambill (Rochester, NY/East High) placed first in the 60m dash and the 200m dash. The men's 4x400m relay consisting of Erik Gleba (Cassville, NY/Sauquoit Valley), Shane Ruffing (Rochester, NY/Westborough), Rah'mire Logan (Hillburn, NY/Suffern High School) and Kevin Gangemi (Cornwall, NY/Cornwall Central High School) placed 16th. Gleba also placed 17th in the 500m while the men's 4x800m relay consisting of Patrick Claffey (Burlington, CT/Lewis Mills), Nicholas Ashton (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro), Tyler Wright (Little Falls, NY/West Canada Valley) and Tyler Sutton (Deerfield, NY/Whitesboro) broke the school finished 9th.
