Hartwick Gets First Win With 7-2 Triumph Over Utica

UTICA, NY - The Hartwick Hawks (1-4, 1-3) secured their first win of the season in an Empire 8 showdown against the Pioneers of Utica College (1-6, 0-5) today by a final score of 7-2. The win helps the Hawks end a four-game skid to start the season.
           
All three doubles teams walked away with a victory to help put the Hawks up 3-0 going into singles play. Krishna Patel (Brunswick, ME/Pine Tree Academy) teamed up with John Talbot (Middlesex, NY/Marcus Whitman) at the top doubles position to capture his first collegiate doubles victory. The duo had to fight back from a 5-2 deficit to pull off an 8-6 win.  
           
Liam Brown (Suffield, CT/Suffield) and Ross Braue (Canastota, NY/Canastota) outlasted Matt Rogers and Jake Nigolian at second doubles to win 9-7. Heidi Rice (Canandaigua, NY/Marcus Whitman) and Rose Natoli (Endwell, NY/ Maine-Endwell) got their first win of the spring season at third doubles, 8-4, over Paul Litvak and Edgar Aguilar.
           
Hartwick clinched the match with convincing wins from Heidi Rice at fourth singles and Rose Natoli at sixth singles. Rice won 6-1, 6-0 against Paul Litvak and Natoli defeated Edgar Aguilar 6-3, 6-1. 
           
Talbot added a win to improve to 3-2 on the season at second singles over Raphael Warnon 6-0, 6-3. The final victory of the day came from Braue at fifth singles to notch his first win of the season.
           
The Hawks return to action tomorrow on their home courts for their Code Blue match at 1 p.m. against SUNY Oswego.
