HOUGHTON, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's track & field team completely dominated the Empire 8 Conference Outdoor Championships on Saturday afternoon at Houghton College en route to the program's 12th title. Ithaca has won all but one Empire 8 crown since 2004.

The Bombers totaled 242 points, which were almost 200 more than the runners-up from Utica College (78.5). Stevens Institute of Technology (66) took third, St. John Fisher College (63) was fourth, Nazareth College came in fifth (49), Houghton College finished sixth (32) and Alfred University placed seventh (11).

Ithaca won 11 individual and relay events on Saturday.

Junior Brandy Smith and sophomore Taryn Cordani were named the athletes of the meet. Smith, now a two-time field athlete of the meet, won the shot put (12.60 meters – 41 feet, 4.25 inches) and hammer throw (46.53 meters – 152' 8"). Cordani took first in 1,500-meter run in a time of 4:41.58 and placed ninth in the 800 meter run.19720

Junior Katherine Pitman shattered the meet record in the pole vault and set a new school record at 3.85 meters (12' 6") to come in first overall. Senior Alex Rechen followed in second at 3.20 meters (10' 6"), while junior Amanda Zaput was fourth at 2.90 meters (9' 6.25").

Senior Sarah Werner and freshman Lusmer Quintana took the top two spots in the 100-meter dash in times of 12.51 and 12.63 seconds.

Senior Eliza Dewart claimed the 400-meter dash title in 58.65 seconds, while sophomore Sierra Grazia took top honors in the 800-meter run in 2:18.66. Freshman Britney Swartout topped the 400-meter hurdles field at 1:07.25.

The 4x100-meter relay of Quintana, Werner, Dewart and senior Lizzi Dowling topped the event at 49.64 seconds.

Sophomore Charis Lu won the discus at 36.75 meters (120' 7") and finished second in the shot put at 11.37 meters (37" 3.75"). Junior Francesca Boylan won the javelin throw at 35.86 meters (117' 8"), while freshman Cortlyn Raynes (34.40 meters – 112' 6") and senior Kristen Pompey (31.48 meters – 103' 3") were second and third.

Sophomore Grace Ryan was a runner-up in the 200-meter dash in a time of 26.13 seconds, took third in the long jump at 5.11 meters (16' 9.25") and came in fourth in the high jump at 1.50 meters (4' 11"). Junior Natalie Meyer cleared 1.60 meters (5' 3") in the high jump to come in second overall.

Freshman Gianna Folz and senior Allie Nugent went 3-4 in the 100-meter hurdles. Folz ran a time of 15.70 seconds, while Nugent clocked 15.93 seconds.

The 3,000-meter steeplechase was made up of three top six runners from Ithaca. Junior Kristin Lynn was third at 11:32.33, while senior Michaela Cioffredi took fourth at 11:36.38 and freshman Emilie Mertz was fifth in 11:55.86.19719

Boylan claimed third at 11.04 meters (36' 2.75") in the shot put, while sophomore Caitlin Noon was sixth in the shot put at 10.09 meters (33' 1.25").

Noonan (44.15 meters – 144' 10"), Boylan (43.42 meters – 142' 5") and Lu (41.82 meters – 137' 2") placed second to fourth in the hammer.

Sophomore Kassandra Reagan ran a time of 1:09.69 in the 400 hurdles to place fourth overall.

Sophomore Sophia Feuer came in four in the 400 and fifth in the 200 with performances of 59.66 and 26.61 seconds. Senior Anna Fay produced a fifth place finish in the 800 at 2:21.32.

Junior Colleen Smith crossed with a time of 1:00.61 in the 400 to come in sixth overall. Dowling and senior Emily Williams tied for sixth in the long jump with a mark of 4.87 meters (15' 11.75").

Utica earned a program-best second place finish after posting 78.5 team points at the E8 Championships.

All-American Sarah Wiatr (Poland, NY/West Canada Valley) won the triple jump with a new meet record. She posted a leap of 11.78 meters to win the conference crown. She also won the women's long jump with a leap of 5.29 meters. Jade Jenkins (Liverpool, NY/CNS) added a fourth place finish in the triple jump, while Jenessa McCabe (Bedford, MA/Bedford High School) came in fifth place.

Utica' Mikey Maxwell (Newport, NY/West Canada Valley) won the 100 meter hurdles and qualified for ECAC's with a personal best time of 15.40 to take home ten team points for the Pioneers. Abby Schaible (Duanseburg, NY/Duanseburg) was the top Pioneer finisher in the 400 meter hurdles with a season best time of 1:08.85, good enough for third place overall.

The 4x100 meter relay team of Rylee Meelan (Clinton, NY/Clinton)Mikey Maxwell (Newport, NY/West Canada Valley)Anaelle Amy (Brooklyn, NY/Prospect Heights) and Sarah Wiatr(Poland, NY/West Canada Valley) placed second and earned eight team points with a season-best time of 50.33. Anaelle Amy (Brooklyn, NY/Prospect Heights) added a personal best time of 12.96 to take home fourth place and four team points for the Pioneers in the women's 100 meter dash. 

Freshman Molly Ferguson (Abington, MA/Abington High School) placed third in the women's discus with a new season-best distance of 37.16 meters. Freshman throwers Nikki Zizzo(Massapequa Park, NY/Massapequa High School) and Emily Fales (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany High School) came in fourth and fifth in the women's shot put with distances of 10.47 meters and 10.17 meters, respectively. Gabrielle McQueen (Long Valley, NJ/Morris Catholic) placed sixth overall in the javelin with a toss of 28.32 meters.

Stevens freshman Mary Visca finished second in the 1,500 meter with a personal best of 4:44.08, while Paige Metzheiser was third in the 800 in a personal best of 2:19.69. Both Visca and Metzheiser qualified for the ECAC Championships next month with their performances. Seniors Amy Regan and Gladys Njokucontinued to dominate the outdoor circuit, as both notched first place finishes. Regan was tops in the 5,000, setting a meet record of 17:44.

Njoku won the 200 meters with a personal best time of 26.08, and also won the high jump of 1.65 meters. The senior also placed second in the long jump, hitting 5.24 meters, missing first by .05 meters.

Fisher earned 24 or its 63 points in the 200 and the 400, thanks to Jess Colmerauer and Chelsea Cleveland.  Colmerauer finished second in the 400 and third in the 200, while Cleveland was third in the 400 and fourth in the 200.

Ronni Ehlers set a new Fisher record and placed second overall in the 400 hurdles, finishing in a time of 1:07.78.

In the pole vault, Danyelle Redmond finished third overall.

Fisher's 4X100 relay team of Haley Brust, Ehlers, Cleveland and Melissa Mowrer posted a time of 50.63 seconds, good for third place.

In the final event of the day, the 4X400 relay, Fisher claimed first as Cleveland, Emily StrongSydney Saccone and Colmerauer finished in a time of 4:04.52.

Nazareth's Gabrielle LeBihan won the steeplechase for the third year in a row with a winning time of 11:16.68 and was the Golden Flyers' lone individual titlist on the women's side. Sophomore Samantha Goble was second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:18.44 and sophomore Emily Soeder was third in the high jump after clearing 5 feet, 1 inch.

Joanna Friesen (3000 meter steeplechase) and Nicole Fink (100 meter hurdles) each finished second in their events. Fink also took 5th in the high jump.

AU sophomores Lindsay Piraino and Brynn Hyde led the Alfred women with top-five finishes. Piraino took second in the 5,000-meter run (18:38.46) and Hyde took fifth in the hammer throw (40.55 meters).  Hyde also placed sixth in the discus (32.29 meters).
