No. 23 Stevens Dominates In E8 Opener

WASHINGTON, N.J. (April 2, 2016) – The No. 23 Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team opened its Empire 8 Conference Schedule Saturday with a pair of 9-0 wins over Houghton College and Alfred University. 

With the wins, Stevens rose its record to 7-6 overall for the season.

Senior Ben Foran and sophomore William Persson got the Ducks off to the right start with an 8-2 win at first doubles, followed by an 8-1 win for junior Antonio Perich and freshman Divin Sarthak at No. 2. 

Junior Michael Feldman and senior Jacob Thigpen completed the doubles sweep for the Ducks shortly after, winning 8-5 at No. 3 to give Stevens the 3-0 advantage heading into singles. 

Sophomore Danny Polk extended the lead with a straight-set, 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 1, before sophomore Kyle Henry tallied the match-clinching point with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 2. Sophomore William Persson followed with a 6-0, 6-1 win at fourth, followed by a 6-0, 6-1 for Feldman at third. 

Perich continued the rout with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6, where Sarthak finished-off the match sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 win at fifth.

Persson and sophomore David Schulz got the winning started with an 8-1 win at No. 3, before Polk and Henry made it 2-0 with their 8-4 win at No. 1. Feldman and Perich polished-off the doubles sweep soon after with their 8-2 win at second.

The win was the first of the season for Schulz, while Henry/Polk moved its record to 5-4. 

Schulz picked-off another win for the Ducks with his 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5, followed by a 6-1, 6-0 victory for Persson at No. 3 to clinch the match. Cenderelli followed-suit with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2, before Perich won 6-1, 6-0 at fourth to make it 7-0. 

Thigpen won his first singles match of the year with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6, while Drake pulled-out the 7-6, 7-6 victory at No. 1 to seal the match sweep.
