Smith Captures Medalist Honors as Greyhounds Win Susquehanna Invitational

HUMMELS WHARF, Pa. --- Moravian College sophomore Tyler Smith fired a three-over par round of 73 to earn medalist honors and lead the Greyhounds to a first place team finish at the Susquehanna University Spring Invitational played at the Selinsgrove Valley Country Club Friday.
The Hounds had a team score of 315 to lead the host Crusaders by 12 strokes in the seven team field, and Moravian placed all five of its golfers in the top 11 of the 33-player field.
"Tyler played really well. It was nice to see him come through with a solid round," commented Head Coach Kevin Edwards. "I am really proud of how the guys keep fighting through the round. Tyler is our third medalist in three events this spring which says a lot about the depth and balance of this team."
Smith led senior Jim Maru by a stroke as Maru was second in the tournament with a 74. Freshman Kody Long tied for fifth with an 83 while junior Dan Leppert was tied for eighth with a round of 85. Senior Evan Dickinson finished in a tie for 11th with an 87.
Susquehanna took second with a score of 327 with SU's four individual golfers combining for a score of 344, third-best on the day.
The Crusaders boasted four players in the top 10. Dylan Gladd took third overall with a score of 76 (+6) and was followed closely behind by teammate Dan Wilson who captured fourth after shooting a 79. Matt Shaffner of the individual golfers tied for fifth (83) and Steven Jumper took seventh (84).
Individuals Rob Johnson, Dave Khant and Tim Unklesall tied for 11th (87) and Brendan Baloh tied for 17th(88). Connor White placed 19th (89).
