ALFRED, NY – Nicole Maher (Newark, DE/Caravel Academy), a senior shortstop on the Alfred University softball team, broke the school's career record for hits during Wednesday's doubleheader sweep of visiting Oswego State.

Maher went 2-for-4 in the opener, an 8-0 five-inning Saxon victory, to give her 172 career base hits. That broke the former school record of 171 held by former Saxon great Jesika LaBarron (2007-10).

The career hits mark comes on the heels of Maher setting the school record for career doubles. Maher, who currently has 43 career doubles, hit her 40th in a win against Penn College last week, breaking the former school record of 39 established by Alison Wickwire from 2012-15.

Maher is currently tied with Wickwire for second on the school's career list for RBIs, with 119. The record, held by LeBarron, is 123.

On the season, Maher is batting .366 (37-for-101) with 26 runs and 19 RBIs. On Monday, the Empire 8 Conference named her Player of the Week for her performance in six games last week (all Saxon wins), in which she batted .556 (10-for-18) with 11 runs scored and nine RBIs.

Alfred is 24-10 overall with a 7-5 mark in Empire 8 Conference play. The Saxons play next on Sunday, May, 1, when they host St. John Fisher in a key Empire 8 doubleheader at 1 p.m.
