2016 Softball All-Tournament Team and MVP
The 2016 Empire 8 Softball All-Tournament Team has been announced.
Most Valuable Player – Kelly Robichaud (Ithaca) – Senior catcher
Allison Macari (Ithaca) – Senior Pitcher
Casey Gavin (Ithaca) – Senior infield
Vanessa Brown (Ithaca) – Freshman infield
Lindsey Thayer (Fisher) – Sophomore pitcher
Jennifer Knaak (Fisher) – Senior outfield
Katie Mazierski (Fisher) – Sophomore outfield
Sophia Chiavatti (Alfred) – Junior first base/pitcher
Liz Thompson (Alfred) – Junior third base
Alysa Russell (Utica) – Senior infield
Robichaud, recently named the Player of the Year in the Conference, hit .300 in four contests during the Empire 8 Tournament. The senior blasted two home runs and collected one RBI.
Macari was the workhorse on the mound for Ithaca, pitching 18.1 innings and going 2-0. She surrendered just 11 hits and three earned runs.
Gavin totaled four hits and two RBI for the Bombers. She delivered a crucial RBI for Ithaca in the bottom of the seventh inning against St. John Fisher to bring the Bombers to within one run.
Brown, the Conference’s Rookie of the Year, tallied a hit in each game and contributed three RBI.
Thayer pitched all 32.2 innings for the Cardinals, surrendering just 17 hits and allowing 11 earned runs. She went 3-2 in five games. Thayer was recently named the Pitcher of the Year in the Empire 8 for the second consecutive season.
Knaak notched six hits and racked up five RBI for St. John Fisher. She had two doubles over the weekend.
Mazierski registered two multi-hit games en route to seven hits. The sophomore also tallied seven runs in the tournament.
Chiavatti registered all three RBI in Alfred’s 3-2 elimination win over Utica. She totaled three hits in as many games.
Thompson finished with three hits for the Saxons, including a double.
Russell had an impressive showing in two games, going 5-for-7 with a home run and one RBI.
