First Day at Laker Spring Tournament

OSWEGO, NY – The Elmira College and Utica College men's golf teams kicked off its final competition of the season on Saturday afternoon when it took on a competitive eight-team field at the 2016 Oswego State Spring Invitational. The EC men carded a cumulative four-man round of 349 (+65) to sit in fifth-place after the opening round of the two-day event. Utica is in eighth place.
 
Three Soaring Eagles broke 90 on the afternoon, led by Dan Gridley '18. The second-year carded his low round of the season with an 84 (+13). Brandon Payne '17 had a nice bounce back from a tough day this past Tuesday at Elmira's home invitational. He carded an opening round 86 (+15). Charl Pretorius '19 also posted a solid round of 88 (+17).

Ryan Sosnowski (Alden, NY/Alden) leads the Pioneers tied for 28 after shooting a 91. Brandon Schachtler (Waterville, NY/Waterville) is in 35 after shooting a 95 while Logan Winder (Ilion, NY/Central Valley Academy) is in 37 shooting a 100 on the first day. Ricky Drake (Clifton Park, NY/Catholic Central) sits at 39 after shooting a 137.
 
Oswego State 'A' sits in first-place in the team standing after the opening round. The Lakers top squad carded a four-man score of 324 (+40), leading SUNY Cobleskill and Oswego State's B-team by two-strokes.
