Nazareth knocks off Houghton in tennis, 6-3

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Host Nazareth gained its fourth Empire 8 Conference win of the season in men's tennis Saturday as the Golden Flyers won a couple of close singles matches to take a 6-3 victory over Houghton.
Nazareth improved to 5-11 overall and 4-3 in conference matches. Houghton slipped to 10-7 overall and 5-3 in the E8.
At first singles
Tyler Williams rallied from a first-set defeat to defeat Houghton's Chase Rangel 2-6, 6-4, 6-4. Then at sixth singles,
Jared Sharza dropped the first set 1-6, before rallying to take sets two and three 7-6(7-3), 6-2.
Scott Trobert and
Lamar Hurt also gained singles points with straight-set victories. Nazareth also cashed in two points in doubles with Williams and Hurt teaming for an 8-6 win at first doubles and Trobert and
Ryley Amond winning 8-5 at third doubles.
