No. 21 Stevens Routs Hartwick And Utica

HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 30, 2016) – The No. 21 Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team clinched another undefeated Empire 8 Conference season Saturday with 9-0 wins over Hartwick College and Utica College. 

The wins moved Stevens to 16-7, while Hartwick and Utica fell to 2-9 and 1-10 respectively. The win cements Stevens' spot as the No. 1 seed in next weekend's conference championship to be played in Hoboken. 

Stevens 9, Hartwick 0
Stevens jumped out to the early lead with a dominating showing in doubles. Seniors Matthew Heinrich and Ben Foran, freshman Kyle Cenderelli and sophomore Kyle Henry, and sophomore Danny Polk and junior Michael Feldman each won 8-0 in their respective matches to give Stevens the commanding lead. 

The Ducks continued their domination once singles started as Heinrich, Foran, Feldman, and sophomore William Persson each won 6-0, 6-0 at first, fourth, fifth and sixth respectively. 

Polk picked-up the 6-0, 6-0 win at second, in addition to a 6-1, 6-0 win for junior Charles Drake at third.

A dominating doubles effort once again put the Ducks in the early lead. Heinrich/Foran won for the second time of the day with an 8-2 win at first, in addition to an 8-0 win at second for senior Jacob Thigpen and freshman Divin Sarthak

Sophomore Antonio Perich and Drake followed suit at third with an 8-0 victory of their own.

Sophomore David Schulz won for the first time of his career at first with a 6-1, 6-2 victory, to go along with a 6-0, 6-1 win for Henry at second. Sarthak won 6-2, 6-0 at fourth, while Thigpen won 6-1, 6-0 at sixth.

Cenderelli and Perich each won 6-0, 6-0 at third and fifth to round out Stevens' dominating victory.
