Ithaca Extends Win Streak to Seven With Sweep
ITHACA, N.Y. —The Ithaca College men's tennis team extended its winning streak to seven with a convincing 9-0 win over Elmira College Saturday afternoon at the Wheeler Tennis Courts.
Ithaca (11-5, 7-1 Empire 8) concluded the Empire 8 portion of the season with another sweep, the team's fifth in its last seven matches.
With the win, Ithaca secured the No. 2 seed for the upcoming Empire 8 postseason tournament, May 7-8 at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.J.
In singles play, junior
Brandon Buksbaum posted a 6-0, 6-0 win at the fourth flight, while freshman
Stefan Lazarevic did the same at the sixth flight.
Ithaca dropped only 11 games in singles play. In the rest of the singles matches, senior
Chris Hayes earned a 6-2, 6-2 win at the first flight; junior
Wes Davis posted a 6-3, 6-1 win at the second flight; junior
Nate Wolf earned a 6-0, 6-2 win at the third flight; and sophomore
Lorenzo Viguie-Ramos won 6-1, 6-0 at the fifth flight.
Hayes and Davis teamed up for an 8-3 win at first doubles, while Viguie-Ramos and Lazarevic posted an 8-2 win at second doubles. Wolf and freshman
Michael Gardiner earned an 8-1 win at third doubles to complete the sweep.
The Bombers close out the regular-season hosting Connecticut College at 2 p.m. Sunday on Senior Day at the Wheeler Tennis Courts. Hayes, IC's lone senior, will be honored for his hard work and dedication to the men's tennis team.
